Hello! And Welcome to the new home of Exit the Stage Door (and hopefully other fine podcasts? Pitch me at firstname.lastname@example.org and let's make that show happen!)!. That's a lot of exclamation points!
It's sooo good to be back in the game of seeking out conversations with the many good folks making and/or enabling theater in Washington, DC and beyond. The show's scope is expanding in this incarnation as well! I used to focus on folks who work in the world of theater and their careers. But I want to go beyond that to specifics: the shows, the theaters, the issues, the scenes, just generally flaneuring my way around this whole theatre scene and inviting y'all along for the ride..
To that end, our first show is a broad look at the landscape for plays in the 2018/2019 season with friend of the show Lauren Halvorsen, the Associate Literary Director at Studio Theatre, and Linda Lombardi, a freelance dramaturg and director (who's got a show, Pramkicker, coming up with Taffety Punk!). It was completely awesome, which I know you will know (or know already) and that's totally why y'all are here!
In an inclusive spirit, I'm sharing the Google Sheet (that's gonna open in a new window, fyi) we reference in the show. It includes every show from every theatre I could think of which I prepared for this discussion. This is a public sheet that anyone can edit (I've kept an archive copy, so no fear!) because I have a bias toward the theaters I frequently work for as a projection designer and design assistant and technician, but that's just scratching the surface of theater in this city! So please, tell me and share with the world what theater companies and what shows you think we should all be dying to see this season!
Don't worry, musicals aren't getting short shrift! Next month, I'll be back with some very exciting guests to talk about a bunch of the musicals set to hit our stages in the coming months.
Until then, peace out!
